Good afternoon Simonton!
As of this morning, the West Gulf River Forecast Center has shifted their forecast for the Brazos River at Richmond to be near Gage 39.9 ft. (which is lower than initially forecast) Based on the conditions, the WGRFC is forecasting the river to stay above Gage 39 ft. through Monday, October 29. The Hempstead and San Felipe gages are showing levels going down after tomorrow.
Besides today, our rain chances for the next 7 days is low. Today, we could see between 1 to 2 inches of precipitation with the potential for higher isolated amounts of 3 to 4 inches within the watershed. Based on the wet conditions, this rainfall could have some impacts on the Brazos River, but based on current information we are not expecting Brazos River flooding to occur. While the Brazos River is elevated, we will continue to observe the actual rainfall totals and their impacts on the River and provide updates as necessary. The long-range forecast is showing the potential for additional rain toward the end of next week, but after today, we should see sunny skies for the next several days including the weekend.
For concerned residents, Bessie’s Creek is not an issue at this time in this event. The flood gates at Fort Bend have not been closed, as water from the ditch is still draining through and heading toward the river. There is some river water in the channel west of Fort Bend flood gates, which is to be expected when the river is at this height. Yesterday the city had Road and Bridge out checking on Valley Lodge and we had an engineer out that walked the channel and did a drive through as well.
So, to reiterate what Judge Hebert said in his statement yesterday, we do not foresee any flooding but will continue to monitor and will update you with any new and pertinent information we receive.
