After the mandatory evacuation order was lifted Sunday afternoon, the Simonton EOC turned its focus on safety and security considerations, as well as coordinating with agencies and non-profit organizations on providing assistance and supplies to our residents.
First and foremost, please watch out for your safety as well as your neighbors’. Be sure to review the information the City posted online on precautions to take when returning to a flooded house: http://simontontexas.gov/2017-flood-recovery/
When parking vehicles on roadways and placing debris on the side of the road, remember to allow enough room for emergency vehicles, mail delivery and debris removal trucks to safely pass.
A detailed debris separation guide, with reminders to not place debris in your driveway or obstruct ditches, is online: http://simontontexas.gov/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/2017-Separating-Your-Debris.pdf
Please take note of the following assistance:
• Distribution of water and cleaning supplies will take place at the Red Potato Market from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Supplies are also available at Parkway Fellowship (at the intersection of FM 1093 and FM 1463) from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• ESD #4 has deployed two water tanker trucks, one staged at Roper’s and the other is driving around Valley Lodge, to provide residents non-potable water for cleaning.
• The Salvation Army will be providing lunch today to flooded residents, starting around 11:30 a.m. at the Roper’s parking lot.
• Volunteers at Simonton Community Church plan to serve dinner from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the next few days.
For safety and security reasons, the City is keeping the curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. in effect. State police officers have been assigned to our City. They can be identified by their green uniforms, and are driving unmarked police vehicles. Fort Bend County Sheriff’s officers and other law enforcement will also be patrolling our neighborhoods. If you see suspicious activity, please call 911.
The Simonton City Hall will resume regular hours of operation tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Please keep safety at the forefront of everything you do. Thank you.
