Hurricane Harvey was a devastating event to Simonton and all of south and southeast Texas. It is in times of disaster that we see how much good there is in the world, and in our community.
During this historic event the City of Simonton had 52 volunteers that worked 1,166 hours under the leadership of our Emergency Operations Committee. We want to say THANK YOU to all of our wonderful volunteers that helped. Whether you were working pumps, logging volunteers in and out, surveying the streets for water levels and damage, checking on the safety of residents and animals, or helping in so many other ways~ The City of Simonton wants you to know that we value our amazing volunteers! We are so grateful for your dedication to our hometown!
We are SIMONTON STRONG!!
CITY OF SIMONTON
EMERGENCY OPERATIONS COMMITTEE
BOARD POSITION AVAILABLE
In Simonton, Emergency Management is vital to our community. This is a volunteer position that requires regular attendance at the monthly EOC Board meetings, which are public meetings, held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6pm at City Hall. There may be some additional time needed for special training as well. This is a great opportunity to join a committee that works year round to ensure the safety of our residents in the event of an emergency. The board is looking for some representation from Section 1, but that is not a requirement.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with interest and we will send you and application for the position. You can also call city hall at 281-533-9809 or stop by to pick up an application.

As you may or may not have heard, there is a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico.
The following is from NOAA:
“there is a tropical system in the Gulf that is likely to become
Tropical Storm Cindy moves a bit more west of forecast and makes
landfall over or west of the Galveston Bay region…bands of
thunderstorms rotating around this system could lead to periods of
flooding. An average 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected through
Friday…generally east of the Interstate 45 corridor. Again…higher
rainfall amounts can be expected if the anticipated storm moves
more west of north.”
There are many different resources to help you prepare for an emergency. Remember to keep:
Food and Water
• 3-day supply of food that needs no cooking
• 1 gallon of water per day for each person
• Manual can opener
• Baby items (baby food, formula, bottles)
• Pet Supplies
More information on emergency preparedness and resource checklists can be found at:
Please be sure to keep up with local news to stay informed on current conditions.
The City of Simonton Emergency Management Team
The City has been communicating with CenterPoint Energy this morning about the status of restoring power in the area. The link to the Power Outage Tracker can be found here:
CenterPoint is currently staging lineman at the Walmart in Sealy. They have 40 contract crews, 20 internal crews and are awaiting the arrival of 20 more external crews. At this point they are giving us an estimation of 2-3 days, but they are hoping for sooner.
CenterPoint has said they will call this afternoon to try to give the City a more accurate estimate.
If you are able, please check the city website. The city will issue an update once we receive more information.
